One of my favorite docs, Dr Keith Mumby recently stated: The most common cause of death is ignorance.
We have acquired more information in the past 2 decades in regard to the true cause of disease than we had learned in the previous 1000 years yet our health continues to decline! We are starving for honest reliable knowledge in a world overflowing with institutions battling for your dollar instead of your health.
Today’s newsletter is going to show you how the nutrition and medical fields have lagged far behind in keeping up with research that strongly effects your health in a positive way. It revolves around the vitamin folic acid in foods and supplements and this folic acid issue may be one of the key reasons as to our inability to achieve optimal health when ingesting vitamin supplements.
Most of us know that folic acid is a B-Vitamin that is required for prevention of birth defects, red blood cell health, prevention of anemia, lowering of homocysteine and dozens of other important functions.
Most of us know that folic acid is a B-Vitamin that is required for prevention of birth defects, red blood cell health, prevention of anemia, lowering of homocysteine and dozens of other important functions. I will not argue with its value to the physical body but studies have enlightened us in the past few years that only the natural form of folic acid, (usually named folate instead of folic) achieves these goals without causing potential negative effects to the body.
If you were given a choice to travel across the country on either a horse and buggy or in a small airplane, which would you choose for safety and efficacy. This analogy applies exactly to choosing “folate” in place of folic acid in your supplements. The biochemical explanation for how folate is processed in human metabolism is quite complex and I will not bore you with the details, however my take home message is this: If you desire to optimize your potential to decrease your risk of contracting at least 2 dozen chronic diseases, look for the word folate or methylfolate in all your supplements from now on. I ask you to quit riding horses and jump on the folate plane from this moment forth..
