Heart disease is the number one killer in this country.  The sad part of this story is that we now know how to potentially prevent most of these deaths. However, this information is being withheld from medical professionals and the public. My father suffered terribly from blood flow vascular issues for over two decades. I deeply wish I had known this information years ago in order for him to have had safe and effective options.

What I am about to offer you is a peek into something that is unknown to 99% of the public including medical professionals.  However, before I begin the story you must first understand the term “dogma”. The definition of “dogma” is the following:  A principle or set of principles laid down by an authority as incontrovertibly true. Dogma exists in every aspect of business life from automobiles to funeral homes, however, the damage from the dogma mentality in the field of health has created much suffering and death, not just lost money. The conflicts of interest in health research are epidemic today. A new word in our vocabulary called “astroturfing” is now being used to describe how corporate and special interest groups very effectively  distort the facts through the media to accomplish their goals of profits or control. This is the reality of health information today. Ted Talks’ Sharyl Attkisson spoke eloquently on this subject for those interested in learning more and this can be viewed here.   The above information is an important preface to this health article so that everyone understands why the mainstream philosophy on cardiovascular disease may need to be questioned by the public. If you choose to continue to believe in the dogma of traditional heart disease, this information will most likely be useless to you.    My article interconnects four distinctly different health teachings ranging from a family physician named Dr. Cowen, a paleo cardiologists named Dr. Wolfson, a software program called HeartMath, and the incredible Bemer machine.   The conventional wisdom says heart disease is caused by arterial plaque formation. This is the story we have all heard for as long as we have lived. It made such good common sense because the plumbing system of the heart never seemed far different from that in my house. When my plumbing at home gets stopped up with debris, I call someone to push it through or suck it out and, bingo, it flows again. The truth is that I have learned that my house plumbing has very little relationship to the arterial plumbing within our bodies. My experience since 1979 in dealing with thousands of individuals who openly share their health woes with me has taught me to question this plumbing comparison of heart disease. I remember so well the many individuals who were told they have 95% blockage in an artery and must immediately be treated with stents or surgery or they would not survive. Because I am in the business of intently listening to so many unique individuals who don’t follow the standard of care from the medical community, I get to observe the results of not following this advice. The reasons for these individuals not adhering to their doctor’s orders are varied: lack of trust in traditional treatments, some who simply can’t afford medical care, and lastly those who believe strongly in the inherent healing powers of natural therapies over medicine. I can say that very few of these “untreated” individuals had any immediate crisis of heart health if they embraced aggressive levels of self care. I am referring to care involving improving sleep patterns, adding heart healthy nutritional supplements, moderate exercise, stress reduction, and many other lifestyle changes. However, despite the initial upswing in most of these patients, many did eventually succumb to heart issues, and this is simply because they were not able to access the protocols and information necessary to set up a healing platform that assists in long term management and healing of health issues. These protocols are certainly not found in halls of traditional medicine. My first epiphany came when I saw the video of the actual reality of what happens within the body when an artery becomes blocked. Within 7 days of a blockage our body’s inherent wisdom  knows exactly what needs to be done to help survive, and it builds all the appropriate capillaries to ensure blood flow continues uninterrupted. This jaw-dropping 4 minute video is available by clicking on this link.   It shows clearly that within a week new plumbing will be created given everything else is equal. My second ah-ha moment was a combination of the wisdom of Dr. Cowan, a video about a machine called Bemer, and a software called HeartMath. Dr. Cowan wrote the book Human Heart, Cosmic Heart that focuses strongly on the system of the body called sympathetic and parasympathetic.  He eloquently describes his radical opinion on the true causes of heart disease.  Dr. Cowan was interviewed on this subject and it is a fascinating half hour that I have listened to more than once. The link to view is available by clicking here.  Dr. Cowen explains that we have two nervous systems, a central and an autonomic. Your autonomic nervous system has two arms: the sympathetic fight-or-flight, and the parasympathetic, which governs rest and digestion. Decreased parasympathetic tone results from stress, diabetes, high blood pressure and other factors, including emotional and psychological ones. Then, while under the influence of a low parasympathetic tone, you experience some sort of emotional, psychological or physical stress that activates your sympathetic nervous system. This shifts your cell metabolism from the mitochondria to the cytoplasm, meaning the cells in your heart shift from using fat for fuel, to generating fuel in a glycolytic way through the fermentation of sugar. Once that glycolytic shift occurs, you enter into glycolytic metabolism where you burn sugar for fuel and make lactic acid. As in other muscles, lactic acid in the heart muscle causes the tell-tale cramps and pain known as angina. Since your heart cannot stop contracting to allow the blood flow to flush out the lactic acid, the lactic acid builds up, causing localized metabolic acidosis that necroses, or destroys, the cardiac tissue. Also, when the tissue becomes acidic, calcium cannot enter the tissue. As a result, the heart muscle cannot contract properly. Next, pressure in the arteries embedded in the non-moving area of your heart builds, which then breaks off little pieces. These are the “clots” conventional cardiology believes are the cause of the heart attack. But the clots are not due to plaque, they’re the result of pressure in the non-moving area of your heart, which is the result of not getting calcium into the cells, which is the result of lactic acid forming from the altered metabolism in the heart. This chain of events, Cowan believes, is the real cause of most heart attacks. We live in an era of totally unbalanced sympathetic and parasympathetic bodies because of our non-mindful days, lack of sleep, too many carbohydrates, excessive stimulants, not living in the moment, lack of touch from others, chasing distractions from the moment we wake up to bedtime, lack of time in nature, nutrient deficiencies, dehydration, toxic foods, and many other reasons. At this point in my search for more answers I stumbled across a machine used in the majority of hospitals in Europe referred to as a “Bemer”. This FDA approved machine has the amazing ability to optimize blood flow through a process that only takes 8 minutes per day.  You simply sit in a chair and your body is flooded with pulsed electromagnetic fields. Words cannot even describe what I felt when I first viewed this video on the effectiveness of Bemer on increasing blood flow. Just watch how the blood flow changes in this short video! To view video click here. I learned that the amazing power of the Bemer is accomplished by balancing the sympathetic and parasympathetic system of the body and opens blood flow, exactly what Dr. Cowan writes about!   The bottom line at this point for me was the awakening to the idea that if Dr. Cowan is correct in his theories on the heart and the Bemer can balance the body system and also offer additional blood flow within 8 minutes, this could be a game changer for all of us.

Nutrition World offers this Bemer Service

For a very nominal fee, because it is important for the community to have access to this type of technology. We actually give

3 sessions free to all Nutrition World customers.

The icing on the cake in this conversation on heart health was completed by two additional pieces to the puzzle:  Dr. Wolfson and HeartMath program.  Dr. Wolfson has embraced a program for cardiac patients that involves a paleo approach to food and also is highly skilled in the area of nutritional intervention.  His new book, The Paleo Cardiologist, is a phenomenal compilation of wisdom and common sense in his approach to cardiac health.  I feel very strongly that someone who combines the ideas of Dr. Cowan with the lifestyle change that Dr. Wolfson recommends, along with adding the Bemer to this protocol, could potentially see miracles in only a short few months.

To learn more about Dr. Wolfson ideas in an article I recently authored, click here. The last mention is for a marvelous program that is called HeartMath. HeartMath is for those individuals who seek to achieve balance in the parasympathetic and sympathetic system but do not have access to a Bemer machine.   This technology uses your cell phone to analyze your heart rhythm, measured by heart rate variability, which indicates how emotional states are affecting our nervous system.

The HeartMath program done regularly has been shown by over 250 peer reviewed studies to reduce and prevent the negative effects of stress, such as fatigue and exhaustion, sleep disruption, anxiety and burnout!

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”
