A quick message from Ed about post-op recovery
Hip Replacement Post-Op
This week our episode of Nutrition Made Simple looks a little different. It’s short and sweet, but Ed wanted to convey a message to you that he thought was really important. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, things happen with our bodies.
Does this mean we did something wrong? Absolutely not! It’s just the very nature of living a life and having a body that doesn’t last forever. On this episode Ed shares a little of what he’s facing and what he’s planning on doing differently than what conventional medicine may recommend.

Greetings, everyone! Ed here with Nutrition Made Simple, bringing you a different angle today. As someone who values transparency, both professionally and personally, I want to share some important news: I’m scheduled for a double hip replacement on April 27th, 2023.
After dealing with significant pain for over three years, I consulted multiple orthopedists. The final verdict? My hips are completely worn out, despite my spine and neck being in excellent condition. So, how am I preparing for this major surgery? By adopting a natural post-op protocol that ensures safety and swift recovery.
Crafting a Natural Post-Op Protocol
My preparation plan focuses on combining traditional medical advice with integrative health strategies, leveraging my experience and trusted health professionals’ expertise. Here are the key components of my natural post-op protocol:
1. Nutrient Timing and Selection
A crucial part of my plan involves carefully timing my nutrient intake. Certain supplements and foods can boost my body’s healing capabilities. For example:
- Proteins: Essential for muscle repair and overall recovery.
- Vitamins and Minerals: Specific nutrients like Vitamin D and magnesium play a pivotal role in bone health and muscle function.
2. Healing Foods for Post-op
The foods I consume before and after surgery are vital. A diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods, lean proteins, and healthy fats can speed up recovery and reduce complications.
3. Integrative Health Support
I’m incorporating advice from integrative health professionals. This includes:
- Herbal Remedies: Natural herbs known for their anti-inflammatory and healing properties.
- Holistic Therapies: Techniques like acupuncture and massage therapy to manage pain and promote healing.
4. Mental Preparation
Preparing mentally is as important as physical preparation. I’m focusing on positive visualization and stress-reducing practices like meditation to ensure a calm and resilient mindset going into surgery.
The Journey Ahead
I’ll be documenting this journey with a couple more episodes before the surgery and one post-surgery. My goal is to empower our health together by sharing these insights and taking control of our well-being. Stay tuned as I navigate this path towards a speedy and healthy recovery!
Thank you for joining me on this journey.
By focusing on a natural post-op protocol, we can enhance our recovery experiences and return to our daily lives stronger and healthier.
